About Maine Valley FRC

Maine Valley Family Centre is a very rural resource centre reaching out to the families and communities of the mid Kerry area. The area covered spans over a large rural hintherland with a population of just over 7000. There are 640 families with children either in the pre-school to primary school ages. With one secondary school in the immediate area catering for 650 pupils along with the many pupils who travel outside of the area to schools in Tralee, Killarney and Killorglin.

The centre continues to meet the diverse and ever changing needs of the families and communities in rural Ireland. Our staff, which consists of a part time project co-ordinator, part time programmes co-ordinator, part-time community development worker and part time administrator reach out to all of the target groups with the wide variety of programmes, projects and outreach work.

The staff and board of management are constantly evaluating the work to ensure the needs of the community are being met. The last couple of years have posed new challenges with the increase in unemployment, number of parents looking for support, suicide and mental health issues to name but a few.

The Maine valley centre continues to do a huge amount of work and this can only be achieved due to the dedication, commitment, and expertise of our staff.

The voluntary board of management is made up of local people coming from a variety of backgrounds and places and all bringing a unique loyalty, commitment and dedication to ensuring the ethos of the Family Resource Centre is maintained at all times whilst also keeping the best interests of the community uppermost.

We look forward positively to the years to come knowing that the wellbeing of the mid Kerry Area will continue to be supported in every way by the Maine Valley Family Centre Management and Staff.
